Hearts & Hands provides non-medical support services to families who have, or have had, a child with a life threatening illness.
Purpose
When a child is diagnosed with a life threatening illness, s/he and their family begin a journey marked with fear, sadness, and enormous stress. The effects touch every aspect of a family's life and can have an impact on their mental health, relationships, finances, and overall well-being. With frequent and unpredictable hospitalizations, life becomes a continual state of uncertainty and crisis. For families, it is a nightmare.
Sadly, in spite of the best care and all the love and compassion of family and friends, some kids don't make it. No experience in life is like the death of a child. It can be a dark and lonely world. Even with the love and support of family and friends, sometimes a parent needs the understanding of another, who has walked in their shoes.
At Hearts & Hands, we know what it is like to live with a child facing a life threatening condition and we know what it is like to lose a child. We can help. The purpose of Hearts & Hands is to ensure that children and families can secure support and care. We have resources families need and, most importantly, caring staff and volunteers who can help on this journey.

Need
Right now, 1200 Minnesota families have a child with a life-threatening condition. Each year, 800 children die. And if that weren't heartbreaking enough, many parents lose their jobs or even their homes while caring for a child who is in and out of the hospital for months.
While Hearts & Hands cannot change the prognosis of a seriously ill child, we can offer support and assistance to parents as they focus on their child's medical needs and their family's daily needs. Our network provides parents with personalized, culturally-sensitive resources. And all services are free to those who qualify.
